Thumb Sucking
Oral habits, such as thumb sucking, can produce enough force to move teeth and cause misshapen jaws.
Due to a long-term thumb-sucking habit, this patient presented with flared, crooked teeth and a mismatch between the upper and lower jaws.
By addressing the habit and correcting the dental problems, this patient will now enjoy a much healthier smile and bite.
Severe Crowding
Crowding is a common problem, which can range from mild to severe.
When there is insufficient space to accommodate all of the teeth, extractions or removal of specific teeth can sometimes be required.
For this case, the patient had four permanent teeth removed in order to provide the space needed to straighten the teeth and achieve an ideal bite.
Mild Crowding
Mild crowding, as seen in this case, is a very common problem.
Even a few misaligned teeth can detract from a smile's overall esthetics and make it harder to clean.
Orthodontic treatment for this type of problem can yield rewarding results and boost self-confidence.
Deep Bite
A deep bite can lead to wear of the lower front teeth over time.
This can create irreversible damage that can be very difficult to repair.
By leveling and aligning the teeth into their correct positions, a proper overbite was achieved in this case.
Under Bite
An underbite can indicate either a skeletal discrepancy (mismatch between the upper and lower jaws) or a dental issue (mismatch of the front teeth).
In either case, such a discrepancy can result in severe wear and damage to the teeth. If the issue is skeletal, sometimes surgery is needed in addition to orthodontics.
In this particular case, the problem was dental in nature, and a pleasant result was achieved without surgery.
